EVANGELISM

Evangelism & Soul winning

Our church vision is according to Mark 13v10 to publish the gospel of Jesus Christ; this is in every form available.

Jesus led us to place a huge poster in the most prominent advertising spot on the whole of the London underground - all year round.  It's a poster, which says ‘10 things you never knew about Jesus’, and this advertising site is so popular that if we relinquished it, we wouldn’t get it back again.  I love to think Jesus has the most sought after advertising place in London, and that it isn't occupied by some multi-national or other billion pound company!  We plan to put tube cards lifting up Jesus’ name on the underground too!

The other ways we lift Him up is by handing out tracts at Leicester Square (one of the most popular entertainment areas in London) on a Friday night.  We’re also trying to get a special licence from the council to perform with rappers and other street musicians live with a generator and speakers.  This was our status until the council shut down all performances there.  After this we had an acoustic guitar player playing praise and worship, and hopefully in the future we will have some singers doing acapello praise and worship and contemporary Christian music.

There has been some resistance to these attempts at going forward, but we keep praying and trusting God that as we lift up the Name of Jesus, He will give us not only more freedom at Leicester Square, but open other ministry opportunities in London and beyond.  This is especially as our church also is called to the nations in missions and more. We also hand out tracts on Mondays and Tuesdays lunchtime in Victoria.

To increase the effectiveness of our evangelism, God has challenged us to pray more, both individually and corporately to see revival.  The good news is that there is a strong discipleship programme in the church, so we feel confident of being able to handle the harvest!

Other forms of evangelism that take place: A lot of personal witnessing almost every day.  This is on the bus to work, one-on-one, or a short gospel message. Most lunch times I preach a short gospel message as people exit/enter a subway station, and again I preach on the underground carriage on the way home.  This includes people at work and some on the street.  Jesus T-shirts are worn – all these are ways of publishing the gospel.  Some of the other ways we propose to publish the gospel are Television and Radio, and getting a youth group started, so they can reach their friends. Other opportunities have been mission trips to Portugal and Wales, with another member going to an anti-Christian country (which we can not name) in November 2003.  This website will be another method of evangelism and publishing Jesus.

One of our congregation member who wrote his biography was a Hell’s Angel who now reaches out into Brixton prison.  He and the team run Alpha courses and there has been great fruit from this work, particularly recently. We have been able to get three copies of his book into every prison library in the UK.

In short, we will try anything to get people saved.
